Direct flights from New York to Malaga resume a month early due to high demand

With over 300 days a year of sunshine, a world-renowned tourism allure, along with thriving real estate, tech and other cottage-related sectors – the demand for holiday makers, business travel, property buyers and visitors in general from the U.S on the Costa del Sol is more vibrant than ever and is showing no signs of disappearing.

On Friday 3rd May, the first United Airlines Boeing 757-200 aircraft landed in Malaga direct from Newark, New York, kickstarting the bustling new 2024 season of transatlantic flights that offer a direct connection between the United States and the Costa del Sol. The flights have even commenced a month earlier than originally scheduled, due to increasing popular demand for the service.

Due to the increased demand for direct flights from New York to Malaga, the service capacity will be increased from 52 flights in the 2023 season, to around 150 flights in 2024, running from 3rd May until 25th September, representing a 188.46% increase in service capacity.

Speaking of the increased capacity on United’s Malaga service, Antonio de Toto, the head ofUnited Airlines Sales in Spain, noted that the reinforcement of the direct connection between New York’s Newark airport to Malaga “is a clear commitment to the Andalusian market” whilst representing “an action taken for the growth of the airline in Spain”, all due to the need towards satisfying the growing demand for transatlantic flights to Spain.

The expansion of the Malaga service further builds upon United’s schedule in Spain which includes a daily non-stop year-round flight from Barcelona and Madrid to New York.

The summer schedule also includes connexions between Barcelona, Washington and Chicago, Palma de Mallorca to New York, along with another new route between San Francisco and Barvelona.

In all, United Airlines’ extra services mean that its flights to and from Spain will be operating at a 30% increase this year, which is a strong testament to the growing demand for people wanting to travel between The U.S and Spain. As the allure of Spain’s Costa del Sol continues to flourish, with places such as Marbella receiving the European Best Destination Award for two years running, the region will continue to attract people from all over the world, and we see no signs of this trend disappearing.
